Crater Lake is a natural wonder that no visitor to Southern Oregon should miss. Located eighty miles Northeast or Medford, it is the deepest lake in the United States and Oregon's only National Park. It was formed more than 6,500 years ago, and it's crystal blue waters are world renowned.
Table Rock is located nearby and provides a wonderful hiking trail to the top. The views are spectacular from the top. Here you can see the most of Sams Valley and Rogue Valley south to Ashland and Mt McLaughlin. There are two Table Rocks, an upper Table Rock and a Lower Table Rock. These magnificent formations, located a mile or so apart in the Rogue River area north of Medford, rise 800 to 1,000 feet above the valley floor. Their cappings are all parts of a lava flow about 125 feet thick, which some 3 million years ago traveled down the Rogue River valley from the High Cascades far to the northeast.
A Little History...
Years ago the Rogue River Valley was home to the Shasta, Takilma, and Athabascan Indians. Then gold was discovered in 1852 - and miners thronged to the valley in search of a fortune in nuggets, followed by farmers lured to the valley by the fertile soil and favorable growing conditions.
Today...
